St. John Bosco on Educating Boys
As a mom of two boys, I really enjoyed reading this article from the Catholic Education Resource Center on the pedagogy of St. John Bosco. Bosco heavily influenced Father Josef Kentenich, who also dedicated his life to education beginning with young boys in minor seminary. I’m sure Father new personally the wisdom of these words, found in the Office of Readings on Bosco’s feast day: “They are our sons, and so in correcting their mistakes we must lay aside all anger and restrain it so firmly that it is extinguished entirely. There must be no hostility in our minds, no...
Read MoreAn Attitude of Gratitude
We all want our children to be grateful. Are certain gifts better than others? According to the Wall Street Journal, children who value relationships and nature over things have higher grades and an overall sense of well being. In fact those who viewed consumption as a main indicator of success were more likely to be depressed and suffer from lower grades. A mom blogger wanted to help her kids learn about gratitude through food and play. She mentions that a reason why kids are not grateful today is that they are not a part of the meal process. We are so grateful that our MONTESSORI program...

We gather every Epiphany to celebrate the “manifestation” of the Lord to the Magi–and to us! This year we celebrated with the Church on January 5, which was indeed the Twelfth Night after Christmas. Moms & dads lugged in crock pots with all sorts of heart-warming soups. The kiddos enjoyed the freedom of running around in the McRorie family’s spacious Hill Country yard. Later they made stars with our 2014 motto, “A Trusting, Childlike Yes to My Way to Heaven.” Together we sang and watched the Magi process to our Christ Cradle bearing gifts of...

We love to celebrate the liturgical calendar at Regina Mater! One of the highlights of the year, hands down, is the Montessori nativity play. Each year the students begin preparing the play in November with our resident drama coach, April Garza. This year, even with a teeny tiny, brand new baby girl in tow, Mrs. Garza did a phenomenal job leading our little ones to shine. This has been such a beautiful, meaningful way to wrap up our semester together by celebrating the birth of our Lord. We watched as sweet Joseph led Mary and the Baby Jesus around the stable to join the rest of...
Read MoreThe Saints’ Vote: Pray the Rosary
The votes of the Saints have surely been tallied. Through experience, vision, and prayer did these victorious souls of the ages find the Rosary to be the greatest tool for our prayer life, often calling it the most powerful of prayer weapons. Today, on the feast day of Our Lady of the Rosary, may we remember all of the many Saints before our time who have given us great testimony and reason to devoutly pray our daily Rosary. “If you say the Rosary faithfully until death, I do assure you that, in spite of the gravity of your sins “you shall receive a never-fading crown...
